Nearly 60,000 Cuyahoga County voters will find a different polling place when they head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has moved 66 voting precincts across nine cities for the general election, according to Fox 8 Cleveland, which first reported the changes. Fox 8's Justin Dennis reported that the nearly 60,000-voter figure came from an Oct. 28 news release issued by the elections board.

The affected cities are Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, East Cleveland, Garfield Heights, Highland Heights, Maple Heights, Parma Heights, Solon and South Euclid. Strongsville, North Royalton, Brecksville and Broadview Heights are not on the list.

Still, the board urges all voters to double-check their precinct before Election Day.

Why the changes happened

School closures forced the relocations. Fox 8 reported that the closure of 10 Cleveland Metropolitan School District schools previously used as polling locations drove the changes. The Board of Elections' special notice page attributes the shifts to "the consolidation of Cleveland Municipal School District schools." The two sources use slightly different names for the district.

The bulk of the 66 precinct changes fall within Cleveland itself, spanning wards 2 through 14. The remaining changes cover precincts in the eight surrounding suburbs.

How to check your polling place

Affected voters were expected to receive notification by mail, according to Fox 8's report. For anyone unsure, the Board of Elections offers two free online lookup tools:

  • Search by name: The board's Get Your Voting Information tool
  • Search by address: The board's Find Voting Information By Address tool

Interactive and PDF precinct maps are also available on the board's website.

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3.
