Three area high school football teams take the field Friday, Oct. 30, in first-round Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) playoff games, all kicking off at 7 p.m.

Strongsville hosts Solon in Division I. Brecksville-Broadview Heights travels to Painesville Riverside in Division II. North Royalton heads to Wadsworth, also in Division II. The Mustangs enter with the most momentum of the three.

Strongsville (7-3) vs. Solon (5-5) — Division I, Region 1

The No. 6-seeded Mustangs host No. 11 Solon at Pat Catan Stadium, according to WKYC. The winner advances to a Region 1 quarterfinal at No. 3 Mentor (8-2).

Strongsville closed the regular season on a four-game winning streak, capped by a 52-14 rout of Brunswick on Oct. 23 that clinched a share of the Greater Cleveland Conference (GCC) championship. It was the program's first conference title since 2008, cleveland.com reported.

Senior running back Kendrick Boddie rushed for 150 yards on 12 carries in that game. Sophomore Austin Tatulinski added 77 yards on four first-half carries, including a 67-yard run. Senior quarterback Jack Kasner completed 9 of 16 passes for 178 yards and rushed for 78 more, according to cleveland.com's backfield feature.

Both Boddie and Tatulinski topped 1,000 rushing yards last season, cleveland.com reported. Coach Jason Trusnik, a former Cleveland Browns linebacker now in his third season leading the program, has guided the Mustangs from three wins to seven and delivered their first playoff victory since 2008.

"I feel like this is a really big statement going into the playoffs," Boddie told cleveland.com after the Brunswick win. "It was deeper than a rivalry game for us."

Solon squeaked into the bracket with two straight wins to close the regular season, cleveland.com noted. The Comets' defensive front features Miami (Ohio) recruit Brady Bush. The two programs met last season at Pat Catan Stadium, with Strongsville winning 28-7.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights (6-4) vs. Painesville Riverside (7-3) — Division II, Region 5

The No. 9-seeded Bees travel to No. 8 Painesville Riverside. The winner faces No. 1 Medina Highland (9-1), which earned a first-round bye, according to YourOhioNews' pairings list.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights finished the regular season at 6-4. Painesville Riverside went 7-3 and holds the home-field edge as the higher seed.

North Royalton (4-6) vs. Wadsworth (8-2) — Division II, Region 5

The No. 12-seeded Bears face the longest odds of the three local teams. North Royalton travels to No. 5 Wadsworth, and the winner would face No. 4 Mayfield (10-0), which is unbeaten and received a first-round bye.

North Royalton is one of 13 sub-.500 teams statewide to qualify for the playoffs, Stateline Sports Network noted.

The OHSAA seeds 12 teams per region, with the top four earning first-round byes. Higher seeds host through the first two rounds. Regional quarterfinals are scheduled for Nov. 6, with state championship games Dec. 3-5 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
